Privacy Policy – Maktoob App

1. Who We Are

Maktoob (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Maktoob mobile application, a dating platform for adults. We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Israeli Protection of Privacy Law, 1981, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and applicable App Store and Google Play policies.

2. Minimum Age

The Maktoob app is intended exclusively for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will immediately delete their account and all associated data.

 

3. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data when you use the app:

  • Phone number – used to create and authenticate your account via one-time password (OTP).
  • Date of birth – collected to verify you are 18 or older and to display your age on your profile.
  • Profile information – your display name, gender, a short bio, and profile photos you choose to upload.
  • Location – approximate location used to show you nearby users. Precise GPS is not stored on our servers.
  • Biometric data (device-only) – if you enable fingerprint or face unlock, this is processed entirely on your device by the operating system. We never receive or store biometric data.
  • Usage data – interactions within the app such as likes, matches, and profile views, used to operate the matching features.
  • Chat messages – messages you send to other users (see Section 6 below).
  • Reports and support communications – information you provide when reporting another user or contacting support.

 

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account.
  • To verify your identity and age via OTP and date of birth.
  • To operate the matching, liking, and chat features of the app.
  • To display your profile to other users and show you relevant profiles nearby.
  • To enforce our Terms of Use, investigate reports, and take action against prohibited conduct.
  • To send you service-related notifications (e.g., new matches, messages).
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties and do not use it for advertising profiling.

 

5. Data Processors (Third-Party Services)

We use the following third-party services to operate the app. These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are bound by appropriate data protection obligations:

  • Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) – manages OTP-based phone number sign-in.
  • Cloud Firestore (Google LLC) – stores your profile data, match information, and app activity.
  • Firebase Storage (Google LLC) – stores profile photos you upload.
  • Firebase App Check (Google LLC) – verifies that requests to our backend come from legitimate instances of the app.

Firebase services are operated by Google LLC and governed by Google’s data processing terms. Data may be processed on servers located outside Israel or the EU. Where required, appropriate transfer safeguards are in place.

 

6. Chat Messages

Messages you exchange with other users are stored in our database solely to deliver them to recipients and maintain your conversation history within the app. Messages are only accessible to the sender, the recipient, and authorised Maktoob staff where necessary to investigate a report of abuse or violation of our Terms of Use. We do not read, analyse, or use chat messages for any other purpose.

 

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your profile data, photos, matches, and chat messages within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain information for a longer period.

 

8. How to Delete Your Account

You may delete your account at any time from within the app:

  • Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account.
  • Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, photos, matches, and messages. This action cannot be undone. If you experience any difficulty, contact us at support@maktoob48.com and we will process your request manually.

 

9. Disclosure of Your Data

We do not share your personal data with third parties except in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers – as listed in Section 5 above, strictly to operate the app.
  • Legal requirements – when required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Safety – to prevent serious harm to any person, including in response to credible threats.
  • Business transfer – in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to the successor entity, which will be bound by this policy.

 

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access – request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction – request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion – request deletion of your data (see Section 8 for the in-app method).
  • Objection / Restriction – object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
  • Portability – request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

11. Child Safety

Maktoob has a zero-tolerance policy toward child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). The app is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We actively enforce this through age verification at registration and through review of user reports. Any account found to involve or facilitate CSAE will be permanently banned and reported to the relevant authorities. To report CSAE content, contact us immediately at support@maktoob48.com or use the in-app report function.

 

12. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including secure transmission (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase App Check to block unauthorised access, and restricted access to production data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we are committed to protecting your data to the best of our ability.

 

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and notify you via the app or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
